The proposed citywide ban on smoking has become a polarizing topic here in Wichita Falls, and over the next few weeks we will take a look at the proposed ordinance and examine how it affects our community.

For those who may not be familiar with the ordinance, it moves to ban smoking cigarettes as well as e-cigarettes, in the city buildings, parks, patios, restaurants and bars.

Duane Holloway, Sales Associate, at a local e-cigarette outlet says he has two issues with the proposed ban."Trying to include e-cigarettes is a joke because it’s not a tobacco product. I don't understand why are they trying to include that into something that’s a tobacco product. It doesn’t make any sense to me."

Holloway continued, "my second question is how are they going to enforce it? Who’s going to enforce it? What, are we going to hire some new people to enforce it or do we got people not doing anything and now they need something to do so you all (city council) created this to give them a job? If they are then I don’t understand.”

The next Wichita Falls City Council meeting is scheduled for June 3rd at Memorial Auditorium at 8:30 AM where city officials will hear presentations on the expected impact of the ban.
