Taylor Swift was honored as the Woman of the Decade at the Billboard Women in Music 2019 event in Los Angeles on Thursday (Dec. 12). The singer and songwriter continues to gather acclaim as the year and decade finishes, and she continues to use each presentation as an opportunity to speak her mind.

Wearing navy slacks and a matching chic top, Swift walked the pre-show red carpet (it was more of a mauve actually) and enjoyed the live-streamed broadcast before accepting her award. Gold accessories finished the look, including a chunky neck strap that held up her top and more delicate jewelry around her waist. Her fishtail hairstyle brought more modern sensibility to an event that was more about business than fashion.

Swift's message came at the beginning of a similar honor at the 2019 American Music Awards, but on Thursday night she really dug into issues of gender imbalance in the music industry, speaking specifically about the recent acquisition of her music by Scooter Braun's Ithaca Holdings.

We Think Taylor Swift Fans Will Love This Cover Performance:

"Lately there's been a new shift that has affected me personally and that I feel like is a potential harmful force in our industry, and as your resident loud person, I feel the need to bring it up," Swift said. "That is the unregulated world of private equity coming in and buying our music as if it is real estate, as if it's an app or a shoe line."

Swift's speech begins at the 1-hour, 24-minute mark of the 2019 Billboard Women In Music event video.
