When it comes to Taylor Swift, one thing is certain: She's not one to take anything sitting down. Her new single "Look What You Made Me Do" is a darkly threatening track, featuring her syncopated, sensual vocals over a sparse background mostly of drum beats and samples of her voice.

The track, along with the new album art for her upcoming sixth full-length Reputation, is an aggressive stance against her haters, her critics and her non-believers. As Billboard writer Jason Lipshutz predicted hours before the song's release, it feels very much like a response to her 2016 track "Blank Space." Only this time, it's no joke — Taylor's back, and menacing with lines like "Maybe I got mine but you'll all get yours."  The "Blank Space" comparisons are even easier to make when she sings "I don't trust nobody and nobody trust me / I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams."

The pop star—who has been taunting Swifties (as well as the greater music-consuming public) with hints about her forthcoming sixth studio album this week via a series of slithery snake-referencing teasers—dropped the debut single off Reputation at midnight on Thursday (August 24).
