I'm just wondering when people got it in their heads that they have a say in who is cast in major Hollywood films.

While I may be very vocal about my displeasure over Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, I think the idea of petitioning for the role to be recast, especially petitioning the White House, is ridiculous. And now fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" have crossed into that same ridiculous territory by starting a petition to have the lead roles in the upcoming film adaptation recast with "White Collar" star Matt Bomer and "Gilmore Girls" star Alexis Bledel.

Shortly after the official announcement two days ago of the casting of "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson, fans of the erotic book trilogy quickly voiced their disappointment that Bomer and Bledel hadn't been given the roles. Both Bomer and Bledel were fan favorites for the roles from the moment the film was announced. According to the petition,

Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING.

With a goal of 35,000 signatures, this petition is currently just over 32,000 at the time of writing this. Producer Dana Brunetti has defended the casting choices, tweeting,

There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc.

So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective.
