When it was announced that Ohio State's star quarterback, Braxton Miller had to have surgery for a torn labrum and would be out for the season, someone had to step up and take his place. That someone will seem familiar to Rider High School football fans. Redshirt Freshman J.T. Barrett will be taking the snaps as the Buckeyes take the field this Saturday in the season opener against Navy.

Barrett put up some incredible numbers while in Wichita Falls. Despite ending his senior season early due to a knee injury in game 5,he still rushed for 569 yards with seven touchdowns and passed for 784 yards and five scores. In his junior season he rushed for over 1,500 yards with nine touchdowns and passed for over 1,600 yards and 14 touchdowns. Check out this video of some of the highlights that made him the No. 11 prospect out of Texas.

Coach Urban Meyer of Ohio State seems pretty confident in Barrett's abilities. Meyer told ESPN, "The best quarterbacks are great distributors, and I watch Peyton Manning and I'm in awe of the way he distributes the ball. I thought Kenny Guiton was one of the best I've been around as far as getting the ball out quickly and distributing to playmakers and letting them run with the ball, let them make plays. That's what my initial evaluation of J.T. is, he's very good at that."

Even though he hasn't officially played a game yet, there's even people claiming that he's someone to watch in this year's Heisman race. We'll see how it all works out on Saturday when Ohio State takes on Navy at 11am. The game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
