After a disappointing debut in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', Ryan Reynolds will have another chance to bring the "Merc with the Mouth" to life in his own 'Deadpool' movie in 2016.

Originally, word was that Reynolds would continue as Deadpool after 'X-Men Origins', but the poor reception of the film and the fan outcry over the treatment of the beloved anti-hero halted plans for a follow-up.  Also, Fox seemed hesitant to commit to a Deadpool movie since to do the source material justice would require a film with a hard R rating.  But after the critical and financial success of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' and the popularity of leaked test footage of Reynolds as Deadpool, Fox has decided to move forward with the film, aiming for a February 12, 2016 release.

For those unfamiliar, Deadpool is a mercenary named Wade Wilson who has a smart mouth and is deadly with his swords, just as he was in the opening of 'Origins'.  But that's where he similarities stop between Reynolds' first portrayal and the actual character.  In the comics, Deadpool is mentally unstable and also knows he's a comic book character, regularly breaking the 4th wall and talking to his own inner monologue, the narrator, and the reader.  He also has a healing ability like Wolverine, but gained the ability while dying of cancer, causing his cancer to constantly regenerate after healing, leaving his body covered in tumors and scars, hence why he's covered head-to-toe.

Reynolds is still attached to play Deadpool, with visual effects master Tim Miller tapped to make his directorial debut.  The script is rumored to be one written by Rhett Reesem and Paul Wernick, which was leaked onto the internet a while back and was met with praise from fans.  A rumored scene included Deadpool becoming enraged after reading the script to 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'.  The plan seems for 'Deadpool' to act as a strong lead-in for 'X-Men: Apocalypse', which is set to be released just a few months later.
