8 Texas Cities Ranked Among the 50 Safest in the Country
Using FBI crime statistics, SafeWise has released its list of the top 50 safest cities in the country, with eight Texas cities making the list.
SafeWise looked at the most recent FBI statistics to rank major metropolitan cities with a population of at least 300,000. The site focused on major cities as the idea of cities being havens of crime is statistically false, with cities reporting less crime per capita than rural and suburban areas, and the risk of fatal injury being 20% in the countryside.
Many people will be surprised that cities with a stereotype of high crime topped the list as the safest, with New York City at #1 and El Paso at #2. SafeWise acknowledges the stigma El Paso faces as a border city,
Because El Paso is a border town, its low crime rate may surprise you, but it shouldn’t. Officials say that this community is made stronger by the hard-working ambition of immigrant families and individuals who make border towns their home. Additional law enforcement resources from the federal government to address immigration also help to create a more stable, safer city for all residents to enjoy.
