Texas Tech Starts Spring Break Early Due to Explosion on Campus

Scary scenes in Lubbock, Texas last night after an explosion rocked campus, with green flames shooting out of manholes.

This upcoming Monday, Texas Tech was scheduled to start their spring break. Well, an early spring break has commenced, some maybe celebrating. However, it was a nerve racking situation yesterday on campus. It all started just after 7PM, when the university alerted students that a power outage was affecting multiple parts of campus.

Reports started coming in that an explosion happened at a substation. Even worse, the engineering key(a grass park area on campus), students started noticing a gas smell in the area. So this part of campus was evacuated last night as an investigation was underway into the smell. When crews arrived, manholes were literally blowing off with green flames coming out of them.

No word on what kind of chemical is causing a green flame chemical reaction like this. The reports we have so far is that an explosion happened inside of a maintenance tunnel and that is all we know so far. Students this morning are packing up to go on spring break. Any students that were planning on staying on campus for the holiday, Texas Tech is putting a plan in place for them so they have a place to stay and food.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported at this time from this incident last night. As of right now, classes are expected to resume on March 24th once spring break is over. Now we wait and see what caused this explosion underneath of the campus.
