The Best Gas Station Pizza is Coming to Texas

Let’s talk about two of my favorite things – Texas and pizza. 

Admittedly, gas station food is one of my guilty pleasures. I love the stuff. 

I realize that it is anything but healthy. But man, it’s so awesome when I come across a gas station that actually cares about the quality of their grub.

Seriously, I can’t pass by a glass display case full of deep-fried goodness without pausing to take it all in. Even if I have just eaten, I’m tempted to pick up a little something for later. 

It probably has to do with the fact that I grew up in a small town in North Texas that had four Allsup’s in it. If you know anything about Allsup’s, their food is legendary in this part of the country - especially their burritos. 

When it comes to gas station food in this part of the country, most of it is either deep-fried or warmed on a roller. But today we’ll focus on the exception to the rule. 

There are those out there who turn up their nose at the thought of eating pizza from a gas station. Not me. I’m anything but a food snob. 

So, I decided to do a little research (aka googling) to figure out which gas stations in Texas have the best pizza. 

I found that Hunt Brothers Pizza received a lot of praise. As did RaceTrac. But the consensus is that Casey’s pizza is the best by a country mile. 

The problem is that you have to travel north of the Red River to Oklahoma for the nearest locations. But that’s about to change. 

In late 2023, it was reported that Casey’s had purchased 22 locations in the Lone Star State. The stores are all located in North Texas, most of which are within a 60-mile radius of Sherman. 

It’s not clear as of this posting when the stores will be open, but you can bet I’ll be trying some of their pizza the next time I’m near one.
