Surviving Valentine's Day can be tough for some people in Dallas, Texas, especially if you're single and looking for love.

Now if you're in a relationship, Valentine's Day can be a bit easier, for the most part. However, if you're single, it can be a pretty tough day, especially if you work in an office full of married or committed people.

The front door to the lobby keeps on swinging open with flower deliveries accompanied by some sweets from a cookie shop or a box of heart-shaped chocolates. If you're single, you could start to feel lonely or maybe even depressed and feel like no one cares for you.

The pressure of the holiday, which was created by the card, candy, and flower companies in my opinion, can be overwhelming for some, especially if single or newly single.

Here are some tips that can help you keep your mind off romance on the day of love.

  • You don't need a date. If you have found yourself dateless on Valentine's Day, it's not the end of the world. In most cases, you're probably better off spending the day by yourself than being with someone who doesn't care about you.
  • Plan a girls' night out. Having your girlfriends around can do a lot for your spirit and your confidence too. Plan a night out on the town with your other single friends.  Then if you all decided to rebel against Valentine's Day, you can wear that little black dress and possibly catch some eyes while out on the town too!
  • Online dating is the game. Now if you're just determined to find love before Valentine's Day, you might want to try one of the many available online dating services. But beware though, don't give up too much personal information when chatting and first meeting up. Still, have your guard up!
  • Hire a secret admirer, YOU! It's just an idea I thought of, send yourself flowers or candy from a delivery company and have them come from an anonymous person, and then you'll have the ladies in the office wondering who it could be, but it'll be your little secret!
  • Stay off of social media. Don't worry about what your committed friends are doing and what they're bragging about. Give yourself a mental break from the manufactured madness.

Above all, remember that you are a worthy individual and extremely valuable to your family and circle of friends who love you.
