It has now been found that cats may be carrying parasites that can cause their owners to suffer from schizophrenia. According to IFLScience, cats are the only host where a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii is able to sexually reproduce. Once it's laid it's eggs, it can move on to any warm-blooded host, including humans.

The parasite has been known to cause mice to become suicidal. In a study conducted by the Schizophrenia Research journal, they have found a link between childhood cat ownership and schizophrenia later in life.

Yes, cats aren't just trying to drive you crazy, metaphorically. According to science, they are literally making you crazy! Sounds like a good reason to just stick with dogs.
