Naked Gardening is a Thing and Austin’s a Great City for It

Be careful, you’re liable to encounter a different kind of snake in the garden this Saturday.

I had no earthly idea that naked gardening was a thing, but apparently, it’s a big enough deal to get its own day. Seriously – Saturday, May 1 is World Naked Gardening Day.

So, since there are people out there who like to let it all hang out while picking tomatoes and pulling weeds, LawnStarter decided to crunch the numbers to figure out which cities in the U.S. were the friendliest for naked gardeners.

The researchers found that if you like to tend to your garden in the buff, Austin is the city for you, coming in at Number 2 on the list. Overall, Miami was determined to be the best in the country.

How did researchers reach their conclusions?

Some of the factors they looked at were the share of the nudist population, the legality of nudity, gardener-friendliness and whether or not it’s likely to be warm and sunny on May 1.

While it shouldn’t come as a surprise as Austin is pretty much a hippie paradise, I didn’t realize the city was so nudist-friendly. Our State Capitol is the 3rd most nudist friendly city in the country, behind Seattle and Miami, respectively.

Looking at the Top 100 overall, Texas, in general, isn’t a very friendly state for nude gardening. I totally get it. Combine the scorching Texas sun with all the flying critters that sting and bite and I believe I’ll just keep my pants on while working in the garden.
