Jimmy Fallon Parodies ‘Riverdale’ With Melodramatic Peanuts Spoof
Television has a new teen soap based on a vintage American comic: Jimmy Fallon playfully lampooned Riverdale during The Tonight Show Tuesday (December 12), airing a spoof called Peanuts, based on Charles M. Schulz's classic comic strip.
In the sketch, Fallon's hunky, varsity jacket-wearing Charlie Brown — a cross between Riverdale's well-meaning jock Archie and brooding writer Jughead — and his pals Lucy, Shroeder, Marcie and Peppermint Patty become entangled in a murder mystery when they stumble upon Linus' corpse in a pumpkin patch.
What follows is a hilarious parody of The CW's hit series, complete with over-the-top melodrama, questionable "teen" casting and a reference to Season 1's sordid teacher-student affair. There's also a joke about Charlie Brown's awful aspirations as a singer-musician, a nod to Riverdale's own tendency towards cringe-worthy musical performances.
And don't worry, Peanuts purists: Unlike Riverdale's football star, Archie Andrews, Charlie Brown still can't kick a football to save his life. Good grief!
Watch up top. Riverdale, one of PopCrush's 17 best TV shows of 2017, airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET on The CW.
