As we watch the numbers of new COVID-19 cases increase both here in Wichita Falls and around the world, we get a little more consistent in our personal protective actions.

We stay away from large crowds, wash or sanitize our hands more frequently, and wear our face masks more consistently.

It's that last one that becomes the biggest nuisance. Especially when we're out of the house for hours and have to spend most of the day masked up. That's when we realize just what our breath can actually smell like by the end of a busy day.

Fortunately there are things we can do short of finding a place to brush our teeth or rinse our mouths with mouthwash. PR Newswire reports that the most common way we freshen our breath over the course of the day is with a breath mint.

Of the people surveyed for the National Confectioners Association, 22 percent said they preferred hard candy. 38% said they enjoy chewing gum under their masks. And just edging out chewing gum, 40 percent said they prefer to pop a quick breath mint every now and then.

Whether you prefer one of those options or have a secret trick of your own, it looks like we'll be staying masked up for quite a while. We're just now heading into the winter flu season and COVID-19 numbers are on the rise all around the world.
