KENNY ORTEGA . . . the man behind Disney's "High School Musical" movies and the Michael Jackson film "This Is It" . . . is going to remake "Dirty Dancing".

As you SHOULD know by now, the 1987 original starred JENNIFER GREY as a spoiled rich girl in the 1960s who falls for a dance instructor . . . played by PATRICK SWAYZE . . . while her family is vacationing at a resort in the Catskills.

What you may not have known is that Ortega choreographed the original.  He says doing the remake is like, quote, "returning home for me."

Ortega says he'll use actual music from the '60s, combined with songs from the original and new songs written for the remake.  There's no word yet on a release date.

(--There was a semi-remake in 2004 called "Dirty Dancing:  Havana Nights", which included a cameo by Patrick Swayze.  Obviously, there will be no Swayze cameo in the remake.)
