Honest Blue Bell Ice Cream Review From a Non-Texan
The past month, I have been trying different Blue Bell flavors for the first time in my life. I tried out four. Is it the best ice cream like every Texan wants you to believe?
I grew up in Maryland and I honestly don't remember Blue Bell ice cream being a thing up there. I have lived here in Texas since 2007 and never tried Blue Bell. Then people started dying from Blue Bell and I wanted to try it. Is that weird?
Now that it's back on shelves, time to eat. I will judge them on five-star basis. So what does someone not from Texas think about Blue Bell?
Butter Crunch: 4 out of 5
This was the first flavor I tried because when I want ice cream, I also want candy. Essentially, Butter Crunch is vanilla ice cream with Butterfinger sprinkled in. The ice cream itself was good and plenty of broken Butterfinger pieces sprinkled in. I would pick it up again.
Cookies 'N Cream: 5 OUT OF 5
Perfection is the only way to describe this ice cream. I learned Blue Bell actually invented this flavor and no one has even come close to duplicating it. While eating it, I was actually picking out whole Oreo-type cookies from the container. That's freaking nuts. No Cookies 'N Cream flavor will ever compare to this one. This will probably always be in my freezer at all times from now on.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: 3 out of 5
After having tried the Cookies 'N Cream jam packed with cookies, I went into the cookie dough with high expectations. Have to let you know, cookie dough is usually my favorite flavor of ice cream. Honestly, my container was pretty lacking with cookie dough pieces. It was good, but have had better cookie dough ice cream in my life. Just average to me honestly.
Natural Vanilla Bean: 2.5 out of 5
For my final taste test decided to go with a flavor with no candy or cookies in it. All about the ice cream now. I am a plain Jane and do love vanilla. French vanilla is actually my favorite, but Blue Bell doesn't make that flavor. Decided to try their vanilla bean. Honestly tasted like every vanilla bean ice cream I have had in my life. If I did a blind taste test, no way I could pick this out from a competitor.
In conclusion, Blue Bell is pretty damn good. That Cookies 'N Cream cannot be beat and I will be eating that the rest of my life. Maybe throw in Butter Crunch every now and then to mix it up. The others, I will probably never get again. After looking over the other Blue Bell flavors, nothing else looks good to me.
If anyone has any recommendations let me know. All that said, my favorite ice cream of all time is still the Girl Scout Cookie Samoas from Breyers.
