As ghost stories go, few have the staying power of the Lady in White in Fairfield County, Connecticut who is, next to rocker Johnny Winter, the most famous resident of Union Cemetery in Easton.

As legend has it, the apparition of a young woman in her 20s or 30s – with dark hair and a white, flowing dress – has been spotted in and around Union Cemetery in Easton, CT for several decades.

One story says that an off-duty firefighter was driving one night by the cemetery – located on Route 59, or Stepney Road, in Easton – when the Lady in White stepped out quickly in front of his truck, causing him to hit her. He jumped from the cab of his pickup truck to tend to her, only to find that she wasn’t there. She had disappeared into thin air, as if she was never there. There was, however, a large dent in his truck where he had heard and seen the impact occur.
