I drive past this old colonial home, an interesting piece of real estate that has been for sale since before I moved to Augusta, Maine, several times a day.

Because of its age, condition, and the fact that it is overgrown with vegetation, I've always felt that it looked like something out of a mystery movie.  The kind of movie that features a group of kids who are afraid of the old hermit who lives in the house, but they later find out that he is a nice old man who is just lonely.  Anyway, that's not the situation with this place.

According to Realtor.com, the nearly 2,000 square foot home was originally built in 1843, although it appears it has been modified several times since then.  A massive place, it has twelve rooms.  There are 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, two living/family rooms, a beautiful kitchen with tile counters, a sunroom, a workshop area, and more.

One of the reasons for the fairly high price (given the work that will need to be done) is the amount of land it comes with.  It sits on a 12.5-acre lot that includes access to the Kennebec River.  In addition to the 600 feet of river frontage, the land also includes a 100-year-old community cemetery.  Not really sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing, though.

The home is located at 528 Riverside Drive in Augusta.  The current price is $175,000.  You can get more details HERE
